Information about REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

The REACH Regulation entered into force on 1st June 2007 (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), establishing a European Chemicals Agency, amending Directive 1999/45/EC and repealing Council Regulation (EEC) No 793/93 and Commission Regulation (EC)

No 1488/94 as well as Council Directive 76/769/EEC and Commission Directives 91/155/EEC, 93/67/EEC, 93/105/EEC and 2000/21/EC).

The REACH Regulation contains rules directed towards manufacturers and importers of chemical substances, as well as suppliers of substances and preparations, and towards manufacturers and importers of articles from which one of the chemical substances is intended to be released under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions of use.

Wurm GmbH & Co. KG manufactures exclusively electronic components for permanent installation in individually constructed, stationary systems.

Thus according to Article 3 No. 3 of the REACH Regulation, these are "articles", not chemicals! With reference to Article 7 Par. 1 of the REACH Regulation, no chemical substances from the manufacture of our articles or the components and modules used in their manufacture are intended to be released under normal or reasonably foreseeable conditions of use. In addition, the amount of material totalling more than 1t per year will not be exceeded.

And so as a "downstream user" according to Article 37 Par. 4 in combination with Article 38 Par. 5 of the REACH Regulation, we are not subject to the registration, reporting and information duties of the REACH Regulation.

Of course we feel obligated to preserve our environment and to handle natural resources responsibly. Therefore we strive to install in our products only components and modules whose manufacturers undertake to use only chemical substances that were previously registered.
